Biography

Carmen Mičić is a South African-Croatian soprano based in Munich, Germany. She has recently completed her Master’s in Opera at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, studying under Prof. Brigitte Wohlfarth. Currently a freelance singer, Carmen is dedicated to exploring and sharing her love for opera across different stages.

Carmen participated in notable performances, including the role of Mrs. Gobineau in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium and the title role of Bystrouška Füchslein in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen.

Born in Benoni, South Africa, in 1996, Carmen grew up in the picturesque coastal town of Knysna, where she developed a profound passion for music and performance. As a child, she played various instruments, including piano, cello, violin, guitar, and drums, and actively participated in local bands and orchestras.

Carmen began her classical singing journey at the age of 17, after a successful career as a contemporary music soloist. She became the youngest member of the Knysna Choir, performing solo pieces in notable works such as Vivaldi’s Gloria and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.She pursued her formal education in music, earning a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 2018, where she initially trained as a mezzo-soprano. During her studies, she performed with the Gauteng Opera Company in numerous productions such as Donizetti’s L'Elisir D'Amore and Puccini’s La Bohème.

In 2019, Carmen participated in a summer program at the Berlin Opera Academy, where she appeared as the Third Boy in Die Zauberflöte and began her transition to soprano under the guidance of soprano Georgina von Benza. Later that year, she debuted as a soprano at a concert in Bolzano, Italy.
